In partnership with The Pokemon Company, Japanese resale marketplace Mercari has announced a temporary ban on listings of sealed 30th Anniversary products. The restriction begins today with the set's release and covers its booster packs, booster boxes, and Japan's equivalent of the First Partner Collections. However, individual cards can still be sold.
While Mercari frames the policy as a marketplace-safety measure intended to reduce user disputes, it will in practice prevent scalpers from using the platform to resell 30th Anniversary products during today's frenzied release. Mercari states the ban will remain in effect until the company determines that a safe trading environment can be maintained.
The Pokemon Company and Mercari have worked together since entering a formal agreement in June 2023. The stated goal was to create a more reliable secondary market for Pokemon TCG products. During some of its apologies about shortages, Pokemon has asked fans to remain calm when purchasing products from the secondary market.
Yahoo! Auctions today also issued an announcement concerning 30th Anniversary's release, but stopped short of imposing a similar ban. Instead, its rules require sellers to physically possess items before listing them.

But if the etb rumors are true, then scalpers may have already pushed the tourney-legal date for the 30th anniversary tcg to the two-week mark of the booster bundle's release(due for Oct. 2): Oct. 16th, from the original tourney-legal date of Sept. 30th!
^ A lesson for those who behave like Team Rocket in real life: Stealing pokemon cards for profit before the public has a chance to get any will only serve to make less cards available for everyone else. If there's none in advance of release date, then sometimes, tough choices have to be made to compensate for lack of product.
